Gary Nabhan, PhD, ethnobotanist, is associated with the Southwest Center at the University of Arizona and Director of the Center for Sustainable Environments at Northern Arizona University. He co-founded Native Seeds/SEARCH here in Tucson. Among the many books he has authored is Tequila!: A Natural and Cultural History with Mexican agronomist Ana G. Valenzuela-Zapata (2004) and Renewing America's Food Traditions (RAFT) (with Ashley Rood) 2004.

Maribel Alvalrez, PhD, an anthropologist, is Research Social Scientist at the Southwest Center, University of Arizona, and serves as the university's Public Folklorist, charged with interpreting the regional culture of Northern Mexico and the U.S. Southwest through research, exhibitions, symposia, and other public programs. She is a Board member of NALAC (National Association of Latino Arts and Culture).
